Helicopter transfer from a RHIB.

I have just found this footage of some tactical RIB and helicopter training. They say that they are training to do a tactical transfer from boat to helicopter while moving forward at 20 knots. The Boat drivers get quite a workout on the steering and throttle.

Some of you may have been lucky enough to experience this for yourself as I did once when INDIA JULIET was on excercise early one morning. I was crossing the Solent in a Cougar called a Cat 900, when they decided to drop in!

India Juliet is the coast guard helicopter thatis based at HMS Daedelus, Lee on solent. Somtimes they pick passing RIBs and speed boats to Land their winch man on……. Maybe if you are out and about in the solent it could be you next time?

  1. My partner and I have had the honour of a ride in IJ over Portsmouth Harbour and Lee On Solent. It was the 1st time i had ever flown..in anything!. Was fantstic!..got some great photos. We will always remember that day.
The guys and girls HM Coastguard and RNLI do a very, very, VERY, much appreciated job. Even if sometimes folks don’t always show it.
