What did you miss at the Oslo boat show? RIBs?

March 14th, 2008 | Posted in Events and shows, Ribs | No Comments »

I have just come back from a visit to our Ballistic RIB dealers in Norway who were exhibiting at the Oslo boat show.

I have made my first attempt to create a “you tube” video of all of the RIBs that I saw at the show, so please look below at the video if you are interested in seeing what you might have missed on the RIB front.

Look out for the New Ballistic Police RIB that our dealers have sold to the Oslo Police for Patrol work in the Oslo Fjord. We are told that it is used for marine patrol checking for skippers for speeding and drink driving.

Helicopter transfer from a RHIB.

I have just found this footage of some tactical RIB and helicopter training. They say that they are training to do a tactical transfer from boat to helicopter while moving forward at 20 knots. The Boat drivers get quite a workout on the steering and throttle.

Some of you may have been lucky enough to experience this for yourself as I did once when INDIA JULIET was on excercise early one morning. I was crossing the Solent in a Cougar called a Cat 900, when they decided to drop in!

India Juliet is the coast guard helicopter thatis based at HMS Daedelus, Lee on solent. Somtimes they pick passing RIBs and speed boats to Land their winch man on……. Maybe if you are out and about in the solent it could be you next time?

No Mans Land Fort, in dispute, perhaps they need another RIB?

“A fort built two centuries ago in the middle of the Solent has been taken over and barricaded off by a businessman in a dispute over ownership” Says the BBC website.

It seems like only yesturday we supplied a RIB to the previous owners of No mans land fort, and now having been empty for over 2 years it looks unlikely that the Fort will be open for business in the near future due to an ownership dispute.

Here is a link to the BBC video report that I found on there website yesturday.

BBC News Report

No mans land fort is only accessable buy air or water and in the past the tool of choice has been a RIB.
