Two years ago, I found out the same, and almost also on the way! Since then, every one of our passengers gets one, to be protected from strong winds, salt spray water, insects etc. AS they are mostly not very stable, I buy them in packages of 10, but they do cost almost nothing and my clients really do care about our care!

The safety goggles you describe are totally inappropriate for the job. The lense is so far away from the face that lateral vision is seriously impaired, in addition to the distortion, which when added to a downpour could frankly make helming dangerous. If you can afford a rib and the expense of work being carried out, I suggest you invest in the correct equipment. I use ski goggles which are optically brilliant and comfortable, in addition to which they float.
